Dr Briony Widdis
Briony Widdis is the editor of the Museum Ireland journal.
She is an anthropologist at Queen’s University Belfast, specialising in the legacies and afterlives of colonialism and the British Empire in Ireland and Northern Ireland, their impact on social identities, and how they are represented by collections in museums and archives. She has particular interests in ethnographic collections and in eighteenth century archives of enslavement in Africa. She is currently editing the forthcoming Routledge volume, Museums, Empire, Colonialism: Identities, Memory and Legacies in Ireland with Professor Dominic Bryan and Dr Emma Reisz and is on the Programming Committee of the FE McWilliam Gallery.
Briony was appointed in 2019 to this programme role.
