ICOM Ireland small grants scheme

The Irish National Committee of the International Council of Museums Ireland (ICOM Ireland) has some limited funds available to support the following small grant schemes: CPD Grants and International Museum Day event Grants.
Open to ICOM Ireland Individual members and staff representatives from Institutional members, these grants are sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media (DTCAGSM). Please note that ICOM Ireland Members in arrears are not eligible to apply.
CPD Grants
To financially support members wishing to attend conferences and meetings as part of their continued professional development.
Application criteria for funding:
- Funding will only be awarded to applicants wishing to attend an event held before end of October 2022.
- Applications must be received by the Treasurer at least four weeks in advance of the event.
- The amount of money awarded to each applicant is dependent on the funds available; in the majority of cases the funding awarded will be no more than €500.
- A limited number of grants may be available for one particular event. If multiple applications are received, preference may be given to those presenting a paper or a percentage of the expenses may be awarded.
- Funding will typically be paid on receipt of proof of payment and/or attendance.
- To ensure parity, members can only apply for one grant a year.
- Recipients are expected to write a brief review (500 words) of the event attended.
The request should include:
- details of the course/workshop/conference you would like to attend including fees, estimated transport and accommodation costs,
- any details of funding already received to attend the event,
- relevance of the event to your CPD.
Grants to support International Museum Day events
Thanks to the activities that museums and communities organise and the strong connections they develop with the public, International Museum Day (IMD) continues to be a success year after year. This year the theme is The Power of Museums. Resources and guidance on how to organise and promote IMD events are available here.
ICOM Ireland has some funds available to support museums and professionals wishing to organise events celebrating International Museum Day on the 18 May 2022.
Application criteria for funding:
- Funding will only be awarded to applicants wishing to organise an event/s as part of International Museum Day (IMD) to ideally be held on 18 May or during that month.
- The amount of money awarded to each project is dependent on the funds available; in the majority of cases the funding awarded will be no more than €500.
- Funding will only be paid on receipt of proof of payment of expenditure.
- Recipients are expected to write a brief review (500 words) of the event/s organised.
- Applications need to be submitted by 5pm on Friday 29 April.
The request should include:
- details of the event/s you would like to organise including estimated costs,
- any details of funding already received to organise the event/s,
- relevance of the event/s to supporting the promotion of International Museum Day and where possible this year’s theme.

The ICOM-Ireland Committee will consider all applications and where necessary further information may be requested. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application as soon as possible.
