Critical tech in museums working group: Call out for EOI
6 Oct 2021
What does the post-Zoom museum look like and how do new technologies impact our access to and engagement with cultural heritage? What role will the digital play in our museums and galleries going forward?
Museum professionals on the island of Ireland are invited to send Expressions of Interest to contribute to a new working group dedicated to researching and discussing new and emerging technologies in a museum context. The working group will consider the implications of such technologies – practical, ethical, environmental – ultimately disseminating its research with the aim of improving sectoral practices, ensuring new technology works to widen access and participation in cultural heritage.
The working group will meet monthly online from November 2021-July 2022 to discuss topics including AI, Biometrics, VR, AR, Gamification, Chatbots and apps. Guest speakers, including those working in industry, NGOs, and academia will deliver short presentations and contribute to discussions.
Please note: participation requires a commitment to a reading list and nine 2-hour monthly meetings.
Please submit your Expression of Interest by the 26 October via the below form or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, with subject line 'EOI: Museums Tech Research Group', outlining in 200 words or less:
- Contact details
- Why you would like to participate in the working group
- Any relevant experience or research you have in this area
This research group is supported by IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) and the Irish Museums Association (IMA).
