Thomas MacDonagh Museum
Thomas MacDonagh was an Irish patriot, poet, teacher and a leader of Ireland’s 1916 insurrection. He is celebrated here in his home town of Cloughjordan. Our museum showcases the story of MacDonagh and his family and the inspiring and enduring relationship they had with a small midlands town.
Celebrating the legacy of Cloughjordan-born Thomas MacDonagh, the MacDonagh family home has been transformed into an museum space dedicated to telling his story and that of his family. A main exhibit is the pianoforte which once belonged to MacDonagh’s mother, Mary Louise Parker, who gave piano lessons to local children.
The centre also includes material from the wider heritage of Cloughjordan and a gallery is included to showcase the latest in local talent.
