Museums and technology: online collections & interpretation / Derry-Londonderry City of Culture
08 November | 12:00 - 09 November | 18:30
Event Address
University of Ulster,
Magee Campus,
Derry-Londonderry.
Our museums are increasingly preoccupied with accessibility to collections & new methods of engagement, resulting in the digitisation of materials in their care and the incorporation of ‘new’ technologies – such as social media, games, Apps and soundscapes - into their online presence strategies.
This seminar will aim to discuss the potential & the challenges of digital engagement: how interactive design interventions mould our experience of the museum; the environmental influences on the virtual visitor; and how today’s technologies translate into our collections.
We welcome registrations from museum and gallery professionals, students enrolled in third level institutions across Ireland and people interested in the museum sector.
Speakers:
We have invited a selection of speakers whose current practice explores intangible heritage, online collections and interpretation and the phenomenon of the ‘virtual’ museum:

Laura Maye, Interaction Design Centre
Mark Duncan, InQuest Research Group (Century Ireland)
