Museum Visit: Richmond Barracks and Goldenbridge Cemetery

Richmond Barracks would like to invite members of the Irish Museums Association to visit the newly redeveloped Richmond Barracks and Goldenbridge Cemetery on Saturday 16 September at 11am.
Richmond Barracks is 108 years, built as a significant British military barracks entwined into the life and economy of Inchicore. A holding centre for in the aftermath of 1916 Rising, over 3,000 suspected rebels including 77 women were taken and held at Richmond Barracks before being sent to prison camps in England and Wales. The leaders and more prominent persons were held in the gymnasium prior to their courts martial and final walk to Kilmainham Gaol.
A new exhibition centre was developed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising. Members of the IMA will be given an insight into the strong community involvement in the development of the social historical elements in the exhibition.
The tour will include a visit to Daniel O' Connell's first cemetery and will include some recently re-discovered graves.
IMA members are welcome to bring a guest but please note that there are restricted places on this museum visit so booking is essential.
