'Museum Technology: A Critical Primer' - process, findings, & next steps

17 May | 12:00 - 13:00

Irish Museums Association (IMA)

In late 2021, a group of Irish museum workers came together to explore the use of new technologies in museums.

Supported by IMA and IMA, and informed by experts within the relevant fields, these worked in an open and democratic way to research and interrogate the popular conception of technology as a ‘neutral tool’ and consider its social implications.

In early February 2023, the Museum Technology: A Critical Primer publication was launched, acting as an introduction to seven key technologies: explaining terminologies, how they are applied in the cultural context, and offering some key considerations.

This session will see some of the members of the Muse-Tech Group join us, to open out discussions around findings and future steps to strengthen use and knowledge of these technologies.

Of interest not only to those working or interested in new technologies and ethics in the museum context, it will also be pertinent to those engaged in collaborative, co-creative practice and delve into the process of working together on projects of this nature.
