#IMACoffeeBreak: Museums & Conflict Zones
24 May | 12:00 - 12:40
Irish Museums Association (IMA)
Event Address
Online
In light of global current events, like the war in Ukraine, this #IMACoffeeBreak will focus on the topic of museums in conflict zones and times of war.
Guest speaker, Daniel Ayiotis will kick off this discussion by providing insight into the work of Blue Shield International. He will also position the significance of the Hague Convention on the protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict in relation to the protection of cultural heritage.
About the speaker: Commandant Daniel Ayiotis is a member of the Irish National Committee of Blue Shield International and Officer in Charge of Defence Forces Ireland Military Archives.
About Blue Shield: The Blue Shield network is often referred to as the cultural equivalent of the Red Cross and works globally to protect cultural heritage in emergency situations.
Daniel's presentation will be followed by a Q & A that will incorporate talking points like the impacts of not protecting heritage and actions museums can take to help prevent its loss. Practical takeaways from this session will include building awareness around threats to cultural heritage and developing emergency preparedness for protecting it.
About the #IMACoffeeBreak: These regular gatherings of colleagues aim to provide connectivity between IMA members, allow you to share information and strategies, exchange ideas, and - most importantly - support each other in our work.
The IMA Virtual Coffee Breaks are open to IMA members only (Individual members and staff from Institutional and Museum members). We have limited capacity at each session so please book early by logging in to your/your museum's account to avoid disappointment.
