Workshop facilitator: Mike Murawski, consultant and author of Museums As Agents of Change
After more than 20 years of work in education and museums, Mike is an outspoken advocate for change across the museum field. Mike is the author of Museums as Agents of Change: A Guide to Becoming a Changemaker (2021), and is co-producer of Museums Are Not Neutral, a global advocacy campaign calling for equity-based transformation across museums. In 2016, he co-founded Super Nature Adventures LLC, a place-based education and creative design agency that partners with parks, government agencies, schools, and non-profits to expand learning in the outdoors and public spaces.
Workshop Description: Change is a constant, especially during these current times – yet how do we as museum professionals respond to this change? How might we see ourselves as advocates for change, within our organizations as well as across the museum field?
During this 60-minute hands-on, discussion-based workshop, we’re going to explore barriers to change, challenge assumptions about organizational structure and hierarchy, and develop strategies we can enact to become agents of change within our own institutions and beyond.
In this workshop, participants will receive a "Make Change Happen" Workbook (printable PDF) and go through a series of reflective exercises designed to:
- find our positive stories of change
- build empathy within our institutions
- prioritize the human connections within our work environments
- recognize and grow our networks of support
This online workshop is open to IMA members only (Individual members and staff from Institutional and Museum members). We have limited capacity so please book early by logging in to your/your museum's account to avoid disappointment.
