Reopening Museums: Health and Safety

Following last Friday's announcement by the Irish Government of an acceleration of the Roadmap to Recovery, museums in the ROI are looking at reopening to the public from the 29 June. While concrete dates for museums in NI have yet to be announced, it is expected that this will take place in a similar time-frame.

Needless to say, it is vital that reopening to the public be carried out in strict adherence to government guidelines in each jurisdiction and, in particular, current and revised workplace and occupational health and safety measures to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace and the community. See https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/22829a-return-to-work-safely-protocol/ (ROI) and https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-workers (NI).

Geoff Davidson, Health and Safety Manager at National Museums Northern Ireland (NMNI), will outline the approach taken by NMNI across their sites and take some questions before we open out to participants to share some of their planning and concerns. This session is hosted by IMA board member Dr Riann Coulter, Curator/Director of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery & Studio.

These weekly gatherings of colleagues aim to provide connectivity between IMA members, allow you to share information and strategies, exchange ideas, and - most importantly - support each other during these difficult circumstances.
