Arts and Disability Ireland and The John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Office of Accessibility and VSA in partnership with the Irish Museums Association are delighted to reveal the final strand of Workshops as part of From Access to Inclusion which will take place from 11 – 22 October 2021.
Designed to enhance learning and engagement, to explore and dismantle barriers, and to challenge assumptions, each workshop will be interactive and hands-on. Using a suite of resources, exercises, and discussions facilitated by leading thinkers in the field of arts and disability, your practice will be supported as you work to devise and create accessible programmes and initiatives. All times advertised are in Irish Summer Time GMT+1 (IST).
Painting with Words
Delivered by Anne Hornsby, Director of Mind's Eye Description. Monday 11,Tuesday 12, Monday 18, and Wednesday 20 October from 2 - 4pm IST. Delivered by Anne Hornsby, Director of Mind's Eye Description, this series of four intensive training sessions will explore audio description and access for blind and partially sighted visitors to Museums and Galleries through a mix of listening and practical activities.

Developing Multi-sensory Strategies For Engagement
Wednesday 13 October from 2 - 5:30pm IST Through interactive experiences, discussion, and group activities, Hannah Goodwin, Independent Accessibility Specialist, Rebecca McGinnis, Senior Managing Educator for Accessibility at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), and Annie Leist, Associate Educator, Community & Access Programs at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will provide participants with an understanding of the unique characteristics of different senses and modalities.

Thursday 14 October - 2 - 3:30pm IST Led by Brina Casey and Caomhán Mac Con Iomaire, Education Officers at the National Gallery of Ireland (NGI), this session will detail some of the ways in which the Gallery have incorporated accessible features into their public programme, such as slower pace public tours suitable for sufferers of chronic pain, gained recognition as an autism-friendly institution, and developed an active programme of tailored, onsite and offsite projects for groups with disabilities.
Knowbility Website Clinics
Friday 15 and Friday 22 October from 1pm - 6:30pm IST Sharron Rush, Executive director of Knowbility, returns for another round of sessions where she will review your website in advance and provide actionable feedback on ways to improve the experience for all in follow up 20-minute clinics.
The IMA has secured sessions free of charge for museums with lower resources between 5pm and 6.30pm (Irish Standard Time) on Friday 15 and Friday 22 October. Please contact office@irishmuseums.org for details by the 20 September. (Free sessions fully booked)
Foundations and Future for Relaxed Experiences
Tuesday 19 October - 2 - 3:30pm IST This Workshop will include a series of short modules shared in advance for participants to watch in their own time culminating in a live session with Roger Ideishi, Director of Occupational Therapy and Professor of Health, Human Function and Rehabilitation Sciences at The George Washington University, for questions and answers on Tuesday 19 October.
Virtual Accessibility: A Technical Step by Step
Thursday 21 October - 2 - 3:30pm IST Presented in collaboration with Illinois Cultural Access Network and Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium, an experienced panel of production experts, event planners, and service providers will walk participants through the practicalities of providing Sign Language interpretation, captioning, and audio description in a virtual setting with a particular focus on Zoom and YouTube.
