Field Trip: Cavan

Cavan

The IMA's annual field trip on the 26 September will highlight Cavan County Museum, where Savina Donohue has invited IMA members and guests to take a tour through Cavan's history with Dr Michael Finnegan.

Of particular interest is the World War One Trench Experience and Exhibition Gallery which opened in 2014, the largest outdoor WW1 replica trench open to the public in Ireland and the UK.

After a break for lunch, the group will visit St. Fethlimidh's Cathedral at Kilmore with local historian Wendy Swan. Recently refurbished to coincide with its 150th Anniversary, there are remains of an earlier cathedral on the site. This Church of Ireland complex also contains the remains of a bishop's palace and the See House which was built to replace it in the nineteenth century.
