Field Trip: Athlone

The IMA Field Trip was held on Saturday 11 October to Athlone. These trips are a great opportunity to view collections, projects and new innovations in museums and cultural and heritage organisations throughout the country.

IMA members and guests visited Athlone Castle - reopened in 2012 following the renovation to transform the castle into a state-of-the-art, multi-sensory visitor experience. The trip also included the Luan Gallery, also open as of 2012. Following a visit to The Clay Pipe Centre, Knockcroghery, the trip ended with a visit to Rindoon Castle (1227 AD) in Lecarrow, known as "the best preserved abandoned medieval town in Ireland".
