IMA members and their guests are invited to take part in a special visit to the Edward Worth Library on the 7th July at 11am.

Housed in Dr Steeven’s Hospital, the library holds a book-collection assembled by Edward Worth (1676-1733), a notable Dublin physician and former governor and major benefactor of the hospital. It comprises ancient and modern (ie. 18th century) medical books, and important contributions to the study of related sciences at the time: philosophy, the classics, history etc. Edward Worth was particularly interested in the book as object and the collection not only holds fine examples of sixteenth-century typography but is also considered to be the best collection of early modern book bindings in Ireland.

Librarian Dr Elizabethann Boran will discuss the origins, development and remit of the Library along with providing an insight into how the Library reconciles the original 1730s book-shelves, cases, glass-panes and other fittings with current day standards, and balances the need for preservation with wider engagement with the broader public.

Open to IMA members and their guests, the aim of these peer-to-peer museum visits is to highlight new developments and key projects, along with providing a learning exchange opportunity and an opportunity to explore different practices. The visit is limited to 20 participants so early booking is advised.
