Throughout closure to the public, museums have successfully continued to provide access to their collections and activities through online platforms. However, the difficulty for many has been how to engage with audiences who – for a myriad of factors – are unable to connect digitally.

This session invites participants to consider how, with the relaxation of lockdown measures, we can increase efforts to provide museum services to these members of our community; in many cases the most vulnerable and disadvantaged within society. From campaigns across analogue platforms to working with local community networks or groups, it will ask participants to share what types of approaches they are using/plan to use? Which measures can be put in place during on-site visits once reopened to the public? Is this an opportunity to rethink the museum’s overall accessibility and programming?

This session is hosted by IMA board member Ian Brunswick, Head of programming at Science Gallery Dublin. Tadhg Crowley, Senior Curator: Education + Community at Glucksman will open the discussion with a short overview of their approach.

These weekly gatherings of colleagues aim to provide connectivity between IMA members, allow you to share information and strategies, exchange ideas, and - most importantly - support each other during these difficult circumstances.
