Professor Sir Christopher Frayling delivered the prestigious Annual James White Memorial Lecture 2015 on Wednesday, 11 November at the National Gallery of Ireland.
CRAFTSMANSHIP - a word to start an argument
The word 'craft' has many different meanings - too many - and as a result often becomes a thought-preventer. It now covers a very wide spectrum from traditional rural crafts to the latest sculptural objects in galleries; craft touches design, and also touches fine art. This illustrated lecture explored some of these meanings, and argued that now is an excellent time to set aside differences and energetically to promote the importance of making things.
