About the role
As an organisation we are ‘Here for Good’. We believe in excellence, authenticity, teamwork, respect and courage and seek an individual who can share and embody our core values.
This role will be a critical leadership role, central to our future ambitions. The post holder will have the opportunity to build and enhance the reputation of the Ulster Museum as the premier cultural asset in Northern Ireland, as well as of National Museums NI more broadly.
The Ulster Museum is a vibrant place where friends and family can enjoy collections of art and artefacts from local and global cultures and the rich tapestry of stories they tell. It is a place of awe and wonder, but also a safe and trusted space which allows diverse voices to be heard and difficult challenges to be explored.

We have an ambitious masterplan for the development of the Ulster Museum and the General Manager will play a key role in its implementation and in our realisation of the benefits of this investment.
You will also have responsibility for supporting the delivery of our commercial strategy by leading the team to be commercially confident in the delivery of trading, catering and venue hire activity at the site.
This is an exciting time for the organisation and our ambitions for building the Museum Service of the future are substantial. As National Museums NI moves through planning to implementing our Master plans, this role will be central to identifying and realising the commercial opportunities that will come as we build our future.
If you believe in Museums as a critical cultural institution; if you believe in contributing to the betterment of our society especially at this time and if you want to be part of great and high performing organisation then we want to hear from you.
