AONTAS is holding a one day conference in The Radisson Blu Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8 on 17 November 2011 which will focus on the key role of community education in responding to current challenges, and demonstrating why it is vital that this sector of the education system should be supported and strengthened.
The conference entitled Making a Living; Making a Life will also provide practical workshops for community education practitioners as well as a forum for adult learners. Click here for full details.
The ultimate goal is to use collective brainpower, dialogue and imagination to contribute to the development of a strategy for the structural development of the community education sector; and to ensure that it becomes an integral and key part of the education system through a lifelong learning approach. Speakers include John Field, Professor of Lifelong Learning at the University of Stirling; Britten Manssen-Wallin, Secretary General of the Swedish National Council for Adult Education, and Senator Katherine Zappone, scholar and co-founder of An Cosan, a community organisation dedicated to eradicating poverty through education.
The day will be an interactive one using the principles and methodology of community education and policy and decision makers are encouraged to leave the office behind for the day and join in this important and exciting odyssey. The conference will be opened by Ciaran Cannon TD, Minister for Training and Skills.
