The Irish Museums Association (IMA) is seeking nominations to the Association's voluntary board of directors. The deadline for expressions of interest is midnight, Sunday 01 July 2018.
The board of directors of the IMA is the governing body and is responsible for the development and vision of the Association. As a member of the board of directors of the IMA, you will be supporting the sector by setting the strategic direction of the association; supporting, representing and lobbying for the all-island improvement of museum provision and practice; and advising on matters of concern to the museum community.
The board of directors steer the activities of the IMA. While delegating responsibility to the director of operations to direct and manage the day-to-day business of the organisation, board members are required to chair and sit on committees, supporting and assisting the work of the Association.
Members of the board of directors are drawn from the IMA membership and those elected will serve an initial three-year term, commencing October 2018. Meetings take place approximately every 6-8 weeks in Dublin and board members are required to be present in person.
The Irish Museums Association is a non-profit organisation, registered as a Company limited by guarantee. The members of the board of directors have legal responsibilities and potential liabilities in this capacity.
This role is not remunerated.
The IMA board of directors, as a body, aims to be representative of a wide range of institutions, skills and geographical locations. Of particular interest will be nominations received from those working in the community/volunteer sector and independent museums, professionals with marketing, development and public relations experience and those with knowledge of both IRL and UK museum support frameworks.
Candidates will be knowledgeable of the museum and related cultural sectors, and cognisant of the all-Ireland nature of the IMA. They will be an IMA member in good standing and will be supported by one other member in their nomination. Membership of the IMA is open to all those working in, associated with, or with a professional interest in museums.

Expressions of interest must be submitted by midnight on 01 July 2018 to receive the nomination form and further information on the role of the board of directors.
Nominations must be submitted by midnight on 8 July 2018, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Election to the board of directors will take place at the Annual General Meeting and candidates will be notified within ten days of the vote result. Elected candidates will be required to sign the IMA's code of conduct before attending their first board meeting.
