The Irish Museums Association has announced new dates and location for the annual conference 2018, 'Collecting the Now': RDS Dublin on 10 and 11 May 2018, supported by RDS Library and Archive.
Following the cancellation in early March of the IMA annual conference due to adverse weather conditions, the IMA's conference working group have confirmed the rescheduled dates and location of this valuable event that will discuss contemporary collecting and processes over two days at the RDS in Ballbridge, Dublin.
Announcing the new dates and location, Gina O'Kelly from the Irish Museums Association said:
"With many of the discussions that take place at this conference setting the association's agenda and informing our conversations with stakeholders - along with providing a valuable networking opportunity for the sector - we felt it was important to reschedule this event, the main gathering of the museum community across Ireland."
"I would like to thank Fermanagh County Museum for their continued support while we sought to reschedule it in Enniskillen. However, given the short lead-in time, it became apparent this would no longer be possible due to low availability of venues and services. The new central location will provide increased accessibility to delegates as they themselves reschedule their attendance at this important and relevant event."
In the notice sent today, 21 March, to delegates, she added:
"A priority has been to retain content and most of our speakers have reconfirmed their commitment. Indeed, the rescheduling has opened the opportunity to enhance what was already a strong programme and present an improved offering. We aim to present the full revised schedule over the coming weeks."
Further information relating to the 'Collecting the Now' conference will be updated as it is confirmed on the IMA conference website and the conference page on the main IMA website.
