Historic Royal Palaces is seeking to appoint 1 x Established/Permanent and 2 x seasonal/temporary part-time Retail and Admissions Assistants at Hillsborough Castle. The closing date for receipt of applications is 14 February 2019. The salary is £16,848 p.a. pro rata.
1 x Part Time Established (Permanent) position- 20 hours per week
1 x Seasonal (temporary) Part Time position - 20 hours per week (April to September 2019)
2 x Seasonal (temporary) Part Time positions - 20 hours per week (May to October 2019)
Days/Hours of work: 20 hrs pw on a 7 day/week rotation which will include working Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Hours reflect the business needs and will be greater during peak season, weekends and public holidays.
Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. Hillsborough Castle is a working Royal Residence, the base for the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and a great place for the public to visit. Historic Royal Palaces' exciting landmark project will see this exquisite and fascinating historic property open its doors to everyone. Our ambitious programme of conservation, re-presentation and re-imagination, will make Hillsborough Castle and Gardens a place for discovery, delight, and learning for visitors of all ages, many of whom will buy souvenirs from our retail shops to remember their day.
The transformation has begun with work on an inspirational Clore Learning Centre, the conversion of the Stableyard into an elegant visitor facility and the addition of a car and coach park with access directly from the A1. Visitors will then be welcomed to visit the elegant Castle and lovely Gardens, with new features to see almost every month, culminating in the opening of the beautiful Walled Garden and visitor facilities in 2019.

These roles provide the opportunity to make Hillsborough Castle an unforgettable, special and unique retail and admissions experience for every single customer. As well as providing outstanding service and advice to our customers, you will ensure the smooth operation of the shop and admissions desks and respond promptly and flexibly to customer needs.
You will be proactive, enthusiastic and will relish the challenge of working as part of a busy and professional retail and admissions team who are highly committed to customer care. You should enjoy exploring new and creative ways of working that add real value, and be committed to the delivery of high quality work. You should also have cash handling experience and be confident, outgoing and flexible.
Articulate with excellent communication skills, you're used to multi-tasking and remain cool under pressure.
Good verbal reasoning, queue management, and experience of solving customer disputes would be desirable. Whether you're selling tickets, supporting the warehouse or fielding questions on all aspects of the palace and its gardens, you'll look to provide the highest level of customer care at all times.
The role is very varied and to succeed you will need to be well organised and flexible in your approach. You will need to be motivated and able to work independently, but also willing to work within the team to carry out activities to ensure things run successfully. This is a great opportunity to ensure delivery of excellent customer service to our visitors at a fascinating historic visitor attraction.
