Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales are seeking to appoint a permanent Director of Collections and Research to join their Senior Management Team. The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 February 2018 (by 12pm).
Over the last five years, their new Vision, ‘Inspiring People, Changing Lives', has transformed their St Fagans site to become the National Museum of History for Wales, developed new services to the public, formed strategic partnerships with universities across Wales, and established an innovative Research Department. They are currently updating our collections policies to respond to the needs of contemporary society.
The collections are among the finest and most diverse of any museum in the United Kingdom, ranging from Impressionist paintings to Paleontology, and Bronze Age gold to a working woolen mill. If appointed, you will lead and manage a division of around 100 staff comprised of four departments: Art, History & Archaeology, Natural Sciences, and Collections Services (including Conservation).
The Director of Collections and Research will bring knowledge and expertise about collections, and their use as a creative resource in our wide range of services, from exhibition and gallery development to learning programmes and community participation. S/he will be an innovative and collaborative colleague, who is committed to achieving excellence in every aspect of the Museum's work.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
